Reenactment!

I’m so excited! I just got off the phone with Tamara, a homeschool mom we go way back with, and she gave me information about the 4-H club she’s starting. I’d heard about it before, but she personally called to ask if I wanted to do it, because she said she knew I’d be great, and would love it.
It’s a reenactment group! I’m absolutely frantic with excitement, our first meeting is Nov. 5, we’ll be going to the Tate House.
We’ll be portraying people from 1740-1840, from the Fur Trade, French and Indian War, American Revolution, and the early settlers and mountain men! This is just a huge dream come true for me, some of you have heard me raving about reenactment, I can’t believe I’m actually going to do it.
Our first year will be mostly taken up by getting our costumes and things made. We have to make tents, clothing, nearly everything we use will be made by us. Tamara has the patterns, we just need to get fabric, study…ohh goodness, as soon as I can get to the library I’m going to check out every book they have on this time period. I can’t wait to learn more about this!
We might be demonstrating at the Cumberland Fair next year. We’ll be going to rendezvous, which is what reenactment meets are called, in Windham, and Ellsworth.
I don’t know how I’m going to settle down to my work today…this is absolutely incredible. Just imagine, there’re so many things contained within reenacment that I love:
1- sewing period clothing!
2- acting!!!
3- RP- because that’s really what reenactment is. Creating a character, and unlike stage acting, where you really just portray it, completely inhabiting it!
4- possibly dialect or accent work
5- history! learning! study! aah!
and more…
This is just beyond belief. Bear with my disorganized blabber, I’m too excited for words. *looks up at entry* Okay, so maybe not for words, but too excited for intelligible words.
I’m off to finish my homework as fast as possible so I can start research.
